There was a fantastic documentary on TV the other night about penguins. They are really delightful birds with many interesting qualities and characteristics. The way that each of the parents care for the chicks, both before and after they hatch, is heart-warming. Their commitment to their colony and their comical walk (which is in fact very energy efficient) make them extremely endearing.
On the documentary we saw a penguin being chased through the water by a sea lion. In water, the penguin was more agile and able to get away. Once on land, however, the sea lion caught the penguin in its jaws, but the penguin struggled and got away. The sea lion chased her and grabbed her again, but she continued to fight and was able to escape the clutches of his jaws and waddle very quickly back into the water and to safety – exhausting for all of us.
The tenacity of the penguin was remarkable, talk about a David and Goliath battle. She would not give up.
God is like that with us: he does not give up, but remains ever ready to protect us. When Jesus died, he took away the need for us to ever fight alone; his spirit is always with us to help us escape the clutches of anything that will harm us.
Thank you Lord for providing a safe passage for us and protecting us from evil. Amen
