I have three woollen jumpers that I really treasure. One is a hand-me-down from my sister, who has since died, one I bought from a beautiful shop whilst we were on holidays, and the third is my favourite colour. I love each of them and want them to last in great condition for as long as possible. So, whilst all of my other clothes go into the washing machine to be washed, rinsed, spun and then hung on the line (OK a few go to the dry cleaners once in a blue moon) my special jumpers are treated like babies. They’re gently hand washed in a wool wash, lightly squeezed, and wrapped in a towel to get rid of the excess water and then set on a flat surface away from the direct sunlight to dry. After that they are ironed and stored in insect-proof bags. I have no desire to treat all my clothes this way – I do not have the time, inclination, or interest.
When it comes to God looking after his children (us) he has all the time, interest and inclination to treat us with the utmost care and attention. To him, we are all ‘the special jumper’ and are treated by him as such.
Lord, thank you for caring for us. You treat each of us in a special way and, through your grace, help our souls to be kept in a wonderful condition.
