I recently bought a new pair of shoes. There was a brochure in the box telling me how to look after them to keep them looking good for as long as possible. Along with these tips was the following point, ‘We strongly recommend buying several pairs of shoes, so you don’t wear out one pair too quickly. A woman can never have too many beautiful shoes!’
Definitely good for a laugh whilst a blatant attempt to get me to buy more. But not everything is overt – there are also subtle things around us that try to tempt us down a certain path, for example branded ingredients in a recipe. When it comes to being able to trust what is written we need never worry about the Bible. It is filled with both overt and subtle messages but we can rely on each one and its purpose – that is to bring us closer to God.
Lord we give thanks for the honesty and integrity that is you. Help us to follow in your steps and be the people that you have planned us to be.
