I have a very fancy 500ml drink bottle. It is made from some sort of metal with a gold glittery frosted covering. It is several years old and I use it frequently. While the surface of the flask has been scratched a bit, until recently it’s been looking great, but once it came into contact with the sea air (up north) it went downhill fast. I cannot believe how quickly the rust attacked the surface of the flask; it has almost lost its former beauty.
The sea air and salt water, as well as healing on one level, can still be destructive. The house we stayed in also showed several signs of corrosion; the ongoing maintenance required to stay on top of it must be significant. In a sense it is like our Christian faith, it is much easier to maintain if we are continually at it, keeping the rust at bay.
Lord thank you for blessing us with faith. Please help us to remain strong, particularly when times are tough.
