I had great fun last week participating in an ‘Escape Room’ adventure. The door was never locked, in fact, and we were free to leave at any time, but I won’t let that get in the way of a good story. The idea is that a group of friends go into a puzzle room and try to follow a series of subtle and obscure clues to solve a mystery. For example, there were a few different combination locks that needed to be opened to get to the next clue. The codes were cleverly hidden, usually clearly in sight but not immediately recognisable as a combination.
Anyway, it was fun but that was due to us knowing that once our allotted time was up, we would not only be free to go but would be asked to go so that the next group could come in. But what about if you were really locked into something and couldn’t find your way out. Not necessarily a physical area, but an emotional one. You are in a situation and you can’t see your way out – how frightening.
With God on your side, there is nothing that can hold you back from being free. He will show you the way and give you the strength to leave whatever it is behind so that you can begin again.
Lord we thank you for your grace and mercy that promise to release us from the chains that bind. Amen
