We travelled north on the long weekend to visit some of our family and stopped at Pacific Dunes golf course on the way to have a game. When we got to the 8th hole (almost halfway through the round) there was a sign inviting players to ring through a lunch order, to be picked up after the 9th hole. What a treat – yes please. The menu was adequate although not at all extensive. Brad selected a ham, cheese and tomato toasty and I asked for the same without the ham. When we arrived at the club house the waiter delivered our lunches packed into two cardboard boxes. ‘The ham, cheese and tomato toasty is in the top box, and the one without tomato is in the bottom box.’ I love tomato and don’t eat any meat, let alone ham. ☹
The person taking our orders did not listen very carefully at all although we can’t expect that everyone has the listening skills of God. God is the supreme listener, regardless of whether we are eloquent or inarticulate, clear voiced or mumbled, he hears it all. He wants to listen to us, and he wants us to listen to him; he longs to be in a relationship with us.
Lord, help us to have the same level of desire to hear you as you have to hear us. Amen
