Bible Reading: Psalm 69:7-18.
‘But I pray to you, Lord, in the time of your favour; in your great love, O God, answer me with your sure salvation. Rescue me from the mire, do not let me sink; deliver me from those who hate me, from the deep waters. Do not let the floodwaters engulf me or the depths swallow me up or the pit close its mouth over me.’ (Verses 13-15)
I was looking through some old photos the other day and came across some of our family dog. He was part of our family for many years, and we all loved him and he us. One day as he was following me out into the yard, I accidentally closed the door on his leg. It really hurt him, and he yelped at the sudden pain. I felt so bad, but as soon as I had freed him from the door, he seemed to forget that I was the one who had hurt him. His good humour quickly returned, he was looking up at me with a big smile and wagging his tail. In an instant we were back to our happy relationship.
That is also what it is like with God. Even though we hurt him he does not turn his back on us. He forgives us and keeps his arms wrapped around us. In the Psalms, we hear how David seeks God and asks him to deliver him. Even though David had broken some of Gods commandments he knew that God still loved him, and that God would not desert him.
We fall short so often Lord, but still, you love us. There are times when we ignore your voice, but still, you love us. No matter what we do, no matter what we don’t do, still you love us. Thank you God for your grace. Amen
