Bible Reading: John 12:20-26.
Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the festival. They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.” Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus. (Verses 20-22)
“Six degrees of separation is the theory that everyone and everything is six or fewer steps away, by way of introduction, from any other person in the world….” An interesting concept but one I do not personally subscribe to. Even within our relatively small population I don’t see how I could reach certain people through a chain of friends and acquaintances.
However, that is quite similar to the tactic that the Greeks used when they wanted to meet and talk with Jesus. Firstly, they approached Phillip who in turn spoke to Andrew, then together Andrew and Phillip spoke with Jesus who agreed to meet the Greeks. The good news to man is that we are not separated from Jesus by any degrees – we do not need to have a friend of a friend, He is right there waiting for us.
Jesus, thank you for being so available to us. We do not need to know anyone special to be able to know you. You know each of us and you treat us as all as special and your own regardless of our station in life. Amen
