Some time ago David Briese announced at church he was collecting plastic bottle caps for a charity. The charity has been collecting them to turn into plastic filament and then 3D print prosthetic hands for kids in third world countries who need them.
At least that was the good idea – when David went onto their website again recently, there was a request to not collect any more bottle tops. They have had a huge response and have over 10 million tops – the problem being that the process for 3D printing is not producing hands of sufficient quality. They are working on that problem and on other uses for their bottle-top plastic, but for the moment do not want to keep hoarding them.
So unfortunately our bottle caps must go to land-fill as they are too small to be recycled. Any item for recycling in the ACT must be at least credit card size. Please click here to ensure you recycle right.
