UPDATE OF THE COMMUNITY GARDEN
If you are interested in the garden, you will see that we have a few beds of produce.
We are still working on improving the soil and plan to plant summer seedlings of tomatoes, cucumbers, zucchini, squash, beans etc within the fortnight. At present we have a bed of strawberry plants with lots of flowers and a herb garden consisting of parsley, sage, coriander, rosemary, and thyme. You are welcome to check out the herbs and take some if you wish. We are giving them to the people that are collecting bread on Monday nights.
A large compost area was constructed in the corner for bigger cuttings such as small branches and used flowers from the altar. We have three compost bins that several of us are putting food scraps etc in (thanks Briese’s) but appreciate if the scraps like cabbage and skins be cut in smaller pieces. At present the two green bins are ready to spread on the beds so appreciate if any scraps can be put in the black bin. Thanks, Jim, for collecting coffee beans and Judy continues to aerate the produce.
We are also planning a watering roster for the summer.
Next Tuesday 9th November from 10am to 12md the Community Garden Opening will be held. A flyer will be handed out to locals and the units behind the church and any interested volunteers. We welcome anyone from the congregation to join in as we need a few more volunteers. Following the Opening Day the garden will be available to anyone to visit or help with weeding or watering on a weekly basis on Tuesday mornings. This will be reviewed at the end of the year.
